The Blog

If you are interested in books, languages, and translation, here you can find my posts on these subjects.

I am currently writing a series of posts called Emma in giallo (literally “Emma in yellow”), in which I review murder mystery books that I have read. It is not a secret that I love reading and that murder mysteries are my favourite genre. There is no set frequency for these posts and, sometimes, I may also link them to current events or latest news. The main reason to publish these posts, though, is just to review the books, share my passion with you, and give you tips on what to read.

The title of the series is a dedication to my favourite TV series of all times, Murder, She Wrote, which was titled La signora in giallo in Italian. This title translates back to “The lady in yellow” because murder mystery books are also commonly known as yellow books in Italian. The reason for this name is linked to a famous episode in the history of the Italian publishing industry: back in 1929, Italian publisher Mondadori launched a series of murder mysteries with a yellow cover and the name Gialli Mondadori  (yellow books Mondadori) was immediately associated with the genre.

During my MA studies, I also wrote two other series of posts that were published on alternated weeks: the first was called Emma recensisce (Emma reviews) and it was dedicated to reviewing books about languages and translation; the second was Traduzione al naturale (a word play on “environmental translation” and “translation au naturel”), which was a practical exercise in which I analysed the translation problems I faced translating articles about nature and the environment.

Other older posts talk about different subjects always linked to languages, such as TV series to be used for language practice or British traditions.

Most of the posts are in Italian but you will also find some of them written in English.
